DEPARTMENT OF PHILOSOPHY

 

The mission of the Department of Philosophy at Akdeniz University is to educate students who, in a polyphonic millennium, maintain a sense of truth and curiosity, combine sound reasoning skills with reliable knowledge, and aspire to create not a “duel” but a “duet” between the local and the global.

The vision of the Department of Philosophy at Akdeniz University is to train well-equipped philosophy educators and prospective academics who are well-versed in all disciplines of philosophy, possess a strong command of international literature and current developments, and to facilitate opportunities for their employment.

 

The Department of Philosophy was founded in 2001 by Prof. Dr. Hasan ASLAN, it continues its activities to train well-equipped philosophy group teachers and academician candidates who have a good command of the international literature and current developments in all disciplines of philosophy and to provide opportunities for their employment.

The Department of Philosophy, operating under the Institute of Social Sciences, admitted its first cohort of master’s students in 2002. In the 2005–2006 academic year, the department launched its undergraduate program in philosophy, which spans a total of eight semesters. Building on its academic development, the department established the doctoral program in philosophy in 2011.

The Department of Philosophy is a participant in the Farabi, Mevlana, Free-Mover, and Erasmus+ exchange programs.

Graduates of the Department of Philosophy have the opportunity to pursue master's and doctoral studies at universities, as well as to work as research assistants, specialists, and lecturers. In addition to the courses offered within the undergraduate philosophy program, students who complete the pedagogical formation courses may work as “Philosophy Group Teachers” not only in schools affiliated with the Ministry of National Education but also in private schools and educational institutions.
